Course Description:

This course is designed to familiarize clinicians with the concept of sub-grouping patients with low back pain. Sub-grouping patients places an emphasis on identifying important signs and symptoms that allow the clinician to confidently determine the intervention that is most likely to result in an optimal outcome.
The sub-grouping method is in contrast to the currently prevalent patho-anatomical model, where the emphasis is on the often difficult, if not impossible, task of identifying a single structure or tissue as the pain generator.

Relevant research regarding sub-grouping will be discussed and there will be laboratory sessions instructing the participants in how to perform the primary interventions of each sub-group:
· Lumbo-pelvic thrust technique
· Extension and flexion oriented treatment algorithms
· Lumbo-pelvic stabilization exercises
